Saxon Twelfth Night Celebration
Saturday 05 January 2019
On twelfth night 878AD King Alfred was driven out of Chippenham by the Vikings. The events that followed changed history. Celebrate one of Chippenham’s most important stories at Chippenham Museum’s annual Saxon celebration.
Meet a Saxon at the museum and learn about what life was like in Chippenham over 1000 years ago. What did people wear? What did they eat? Where did they live? Join regular tours to discover the stories behind Saxon objects on display in the museum.
Local author Geoff Hill will be giving readings from his series of Viking ghost stories and little explorers can enjoy searching for Saxon teddies hidden around the museum’s two floors of galleries.
Taking place on Saturday 5th January 2019 from 10am to 3pm.
