Chippenham Summer Garden: The Big Chippenham Antiques Valuation Day
Wednesday 28 August 2019
Bring along those treasures you've been sitting on and find out what they're really worth! Run by Chippenham Auction Rooms and with specialists Marc Allum and Lisa Lloyd.
Marc Allum is a freelance art and antiques journalist, writer and broadcaster based in Wiltshire. He has worked as a specialist on the BBC Antiques Roadshow for 22 years and has appeared on numerous other television and radio programmes. Marc regularly writes for mainstream magazines and is an author, antiques consultant and lecturer. He has contributed to or written 15 books including the 40th anniversary Antiques Roadshow – Forty Years of Great Finds, which he co-authored with colleague Paul Atterbury. He also runs a fine art valuation and consultancy service.
Marc has his own unique style with interests ranging from pre-history to modern design and is a self-confessed collectaholic. He has a passion and reputation for divining the unusual through ‘a desire to connect with history through the interpretation and pursuit of objects and their origins’. Marc has lectured widely for many years to a number of different organisations in both the public and charity sector, including travel companies, The National Trust, The WI and at many literary festivals including Cheltenham, Bath, Wells and Petworth.
Lisa Lloyd has worked in the world of antiques for 30 years. Her background as an auctioneer and director of Rosebery’s in south London for 16 years set her in good stead as an eclectic generalist and a member of the ‘miscellaneous’ team on the show. Her personal favourites include textiles, jewellery, Grand Tour souvenirs and ceramics.
Lisa cites interior design amongst her passions and runs an on-line business supplying antiques and decorative items to a host of corporate and private clients, as well as designing and fitting complete interiors. Her personal projects have included the restoration of a 17th century Chateau in France, a Regency town house and a 15th century rectory in which she currently lives.
The most memorable Roadshow find would have to be a rare ‘The Winner’ enamel BP sign valued at £10,000-15,000 but her wish list item would be something mystical such as a rare Bezoar stone (an antidote to poison) or a witch’s bottle used as a protective amulet and buried under old thresholds.
